RWANDA PARC NATIONAL DES VOLCANS,   RWANDA     Time for Travel: During the drier seasons, Periods between December to early March and June to September How To Reach: 2 hrs drive from Gisenyi or Kigali or from the Kigali International Airport.   This National Park is part of the Virunga Conservation Area and covers more than 125km2, including Five extinct volcanoes: Muhabura, Sabyinyo, Gahinga, Karisimbi and Bisoke. The Karisimbi and Bisoke can be climbed during one or two-day treks.

Volcanoes National Park is one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations situated in-North-western Rwanda. With fewer than 700 of this species of mountain gorillas left, tourists can catch a rare glimpse of the gorillas as nowhere else in the world.

Tourists can hike through the lush bamboo and Hygenia rainforest, open grassland and swamp of Volcanoes National Park to discover golden monkeys, bush duiker, buffalo and spotted hyenas. The forest is alive with the calls of colorful birds and chattering of the rare golden monkey, and every so often there are tantalizing glimpses of the magnificent peaks of the Virunga range through the forest canopy.
